The New York State Education Department (“SED”) Office of the Professions (“OP”) is alerting everyone to a vishing scam that has been brought to our attention. Phishing—or “vishing”—scams impersonate SED employees or websites attempting to collect licensure and personal information from the licensee. If you receive an inquiry which you believe to be suspicious do not provide any information. To verify if the inquiry was from OP, contact us directly. You may report any suspicious communication received to the Federal Trade Commission.

Section VIII Certificate of Authorization to Provide Engineering/Land Surveying/Geology Services

Section 7210 of New York State Education Law requires that all professional practice entities providing Professional Engineering, Geology, and/or Land Surveying services in the State of New York obtain a "Certificate of Authorization to provide Engineering and/or Land Surveying Services in New York State" from the State Education Department.

A professional practice entity cannot obtain a Certificate of Authorization to provide Professional Engineering, Geology and/or Land Surveying services until entity is registered with the New York State Education Department (NYSED). To file a new entity please click here.

Please submit a completed Certificate of Authorization Form by mail to:

Once the Certificate of Authorization has been issued, the New York State Education Department will automatically send a renewal application to the professional practice entity every three years.
