The New York State Education Department (“SED”) Office of the Professions (“OP”) is alerting everyone to a vishing scam that has been brought to our attention. Phishing—or “vishing”—scams impersonate SED employees or websites attempting to collect licensure and personal information from the licensee. If you receive an inquiry which you believe to be suspicious do not provide any information. To verify if the inquiry was from OP, contact us directly. You may report any suspicious communication received to the Federal Trade Commission.

A Domestic P.C. or D.P.C. must be renewed every three years by furnishing a triennial statement, which is routinely mailed out and must be returned to the Department in a timely manner. You can read more about the triennial statement for a P.C. in Section 3 Domestic Professional Service Corporations (PC) and for a D.P.C. in Section 4 Foreign Professional Service Corporations (PC). A Foreign P.C. must be renewed annually on or before July 1 of each year by furnishing an annual statement and fee to the Department. You can read more about this statement in Section 4 Foreign Professional Service Corporations (PC). Firms are required to renew their registration every 3 years on the CPA Form 6T – CPA Firm Triennial Registration. Firms are required to provide an annual firm update on CPA Form 6PR – Peer Review, Competency, and Annual Statements and, as applicable, a CPA Form 6C – Certification of Ownership and Attest Competency. The Department mails out triennial renewals and annual updates 60 days prior to the due date.
