The New York State Education Department (“SED”) Office of the Professions (“OP”) is alerting everyone to a vishing scam that has been brought to our attention. Phishing—or “vishing”—scams impersonate SED employees or websites attempting to collect licensure and personal information from the licensee. If you receive an inquiry which you believe to be suspicious do not provide any information. To verify if the inquiry was from OP, contact us directly. You may report any suspicious communication received to the Federal Trade Commission.

Part 52, Registration of Curricula

In addition to meeting all the applicable provisions of this Part, to be registered as a program recognized as leading to licensure as a pathologists’ assistant, which meets the requirements of section 79-20.1 of this Title, the program shall:

  1. be a pathologists’ assistant program or a substantially equivalent program as determined by the department, which leads to a bachelor’s or higher degree;
  2. include courses in each of the following subjects or their equivalent as determined by the department:
    1. practices in anatomic pathology, which shall encompass surgical and autopsy pathology, including, but not limited to:
      1. principles and methodologies;
      2. performance of procedures;
      3. correlation of clinical information and gross pathology with proper technique;
      4. problem solving;
      5. troubleshooting techniques;
      6. principles and practices of quality assurance/quality improvement; and
      7. laboratory management;
    2. anatomy and basic microanatomy;
    3. human physiology;
    4. anatomic pathology, including, but not limited to:
      1. surgical pathology techniques:
        1. adult; and
        2. pediatric;
      2. autopsy techniques:
        1. medical autopsy techniques;
          1. adult; and
          2. pediatric;
        2. forensic autopsy techniques:
          1. adult;
          2. pediatric; and
          3. toxicology collection techniques;
      3. histological methods and techniques:
        1. concepts of immunohistochemistry;
      4. concepts of molecular diagnostics;
      5. microbiology/immunology;
      6. clinical pathology;
      7. embryology;
      8. laboratory safety;
      9. laboratory information systems;
      10. laboratory management;
      11. medical ethics;
      12. medical terminology; and
      13. biomedical photography;
    5. application of laboratory safety governmental regulations and standards as applied to anatomic pathology, including, but not limited to:
      1. principles and practices of professional conduct;
      2. principles of interpersonal and interdisciplinary communication and team-building skills;
      3. principles and practices of administration and supervision as applied to clinical laboratory science; and
      4. educational methodologies;
    6. learning experiences, including, but not limited to courses, practica and/or other required activities, must be properly sequenced and include necessary content and activities to enable students to achieve entry level competencies in each of the major disciplines listed in this section

In addition to meeting all the applicable provisions of this Part, to be registered as a program recognized as leading to licensure as a land surveyor, which meets the requirements of section 68.4 of this Title, the program shall be:

  1. an approved course of study in land surveying or a substantially equivalent program as determined by the department, which leads to a bachelor's degree or higher; or
  2. an approved course of study in land surveying which leads to an associate's degree; or
  3. an approved course of study which leads to an associate's degree or higher in engineering, math, or a related science or their substantial equivalent and includes a minimum of 15 semester hours that must include one course or its substantial equivalent in each of the following 4 subject areas:
    1. survey I;
    2. survey II;
    3. boundary/survey law 1; and
    4. boundary/survey law 2;
  4. notwithstanding subdivision (c) of this section, if after completion of all four courses or their substantial equivalent set forth in paragraphs (c)(1)-(4) of this section, the minimum 15 semester hours are not gained, any additional courses or their substantial equivalent from any of the following seven subject areas shall satisfy the 15 semester hour requirements of this subdivision:
    1. cadastral;
    2. geodesy;
    3. measurement/analysis;
    4. remote sensing;
    5. digital surveying methods;
    6. route surveying; or
    7. photogrammetry and aerial photo interpretations.
