The New York State Education Department (“SED”) Office of the Professions (“OP”) is alerting everyone to a vishing scam that has been brought to our attention. Phishing—or “vishing”—scams impersonate SED employees or websites attempting to collect licensure and personal information from the licensee. If you receive an inquiry which you believe to be suspicious do not provide any information. To verify if the inquiry was from OP, contact us directly. You may report any suspicious communication received to the Federal Trade Commission.

Amendment of Sections 68.4 and 68.6 of the Regulations of the Commissioner of Education Relating to the Licensure Requirements for Land Surveyors

The Board of Regents adopted a regulatory amendment, effective April 3, 2021, to implement an amendment to Education Law §7206-a that updates the education and experience requirements for licensure as a land surveyor to conform with national standards. The regulations can be viewed here. An education and experience requirements chart is available here, and provides a visual illustration of the various pathways to licensure. The Department is in the process of updating the land surveying website to conform with the statutory and regulatory amendments to the education and experience License Requirements for Land Surveying.
