
Veterinary technicians carry out medical orders prescribed by a supervising veterinarian. These licensed professionals may perform a variety of functions to assist veterinarians and help the animals in their care. Examples of services:
- prepare and give medications
- take x-rays and collect specimens for lab analysis
- induce and maintain anesthesia
- assist with medical, dental, and surgical procedures

High school diploma, or the equivalent
AND
At least an 18-month (two academic years) diploma or degree from a Department-registered veterinary technology licensure program or a program accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) Committee on Veterinary Technician Education and Activities (CVTEA) or the equivalent.
