The New York State Education Department (“SED”) Office of the Professions (“OP”) is alerting everyone to a vishing scam that has been brought to our attention. Phishing—or “vishing”—scams impersonate SED employees or websites attempting to collect licensure and personal information from the licensee. If you receive an inquiry which you believe to be suspicious do not provide any information. To verify if the inquiry was from OP, contact us directly. You may report any suspicious communication received to the Federal Trade Commission.

Psychologists research all forms of human behavior, cognition, and emotion, using methods of observation and evaluation to interpret and modify behavior. Examples of services:

  • diagnose and treat mental, nervous, emotional, and behavioral disorders, disabilities, and illnesses
  • provide market research, personnel selection, and workforce management services to organizations
  • research, evaluate, and treat addictions
  • administer and interpret tests of mental abilities, interests, personality, and emotions to develop treatment plans
  • establish rehabilitation programs for neuropsychological disorders
  • work with educators to address factors that influence learning

 

Salary and Projected Growth

Median salary: variable based on position type

Salary range: $56,000 (entry) to $125,000 (for Psychologists with a PhD)

Doctoral degree from a Department-registered psychology licensure program, or the substantial equivalent

Experience

Two years (3,500 clock hours) of full-time supervised experience in the practice of psychology
