Landscape Architect Print Profile
Landscape architects provide services related to the development of land areas. This includes preparing drawings and specifications that meet codes and regulations for land use, plant materials, grading, drainage, and the location for structures and other improvements. Examples of services include:
- advice on development of a parcel of land
- plans for site improvements around new or existing structures
- environmental impact statements
- preparation of government zoning and planning applications
- designs for parks, public spaces, and recreational facilities
- neighborhood, community, and regional land-use plans
Education and Experience |

“Units of credit” toward a landscape architect’s license are based on your education and experience. You will need 12 units of combined education and experience for licensure. Your experience requirement will depend on the units granted for your education; generally, at least 3-4 years of landscape architectural work experience will be required. Almost 95% of New York’s landscape architects have at least a bachelor’s degree. Visit the Office of the Professions for a listing of all options and requirements. |
