The New York State Education Department (“SED”) Office of the Professions (“OP”) is alerting everyone to a vishing scam that has been brought to our attention. Phishing—or “vishing”—scams impersonate SED employees or websites attempting to collect licensure and personal information from the licensee. If you receive an inquiry which you believe to be suspicious do not provide any information. To verify if the inquiry was from OP, contact us directly. You may report any suspicious communication received to the Federal Trade Commission.

To verify an existing professional service entity or the current status of an existing professional service entity, use our verification search.

When using the verification search, be sure to:

  • select “Business Entity” in the Search By field;
  • select the appropriate profession for the professional service entity you want to search for in the Profession field; and
  • enter the name of the professional service entity you want to search for in the third field. Important Note: The verification search WILL NOT accept punctuation in this field.

If your professional service entity is not current, email opcorp@nysed.gov to request a Renewal for Triennial/Certificate of Authorization Statement.

Checking the Status of an Application
After submission of an application, allow at least 6 weeks before submitting an email to opcorp@nysed.gov to request a status update. Requesting a status update earlier may extend processing times for the application. We cannot provide the status of a professional service entity application by phone. We thank you for your patience and cooperation.
