The New York State Education Department (“SED”) Office of the Professions (“OP”) is alerting everyone to a vishing scam that has been brought to our attention. Phishing—or “vishing”—scams impersonate SED employees or websites attempting to collect licensure and personal information from the licensee. If you receive an inquiry which you believe to be suspicious do not provide any information. To verify if the inquiry was from OP, contact us directly. You may report any suspicious communication received to the Federal Trade Commission.

Scope of Practice for New York State Licensed Registered Dental Assistants and Dental Hygienists

Recent changes to section 6608 of Education Law and sections 52.26, 61.9 and 61.13 of the Commissioner's Regulations have changed the scope of practice for New York State licensed registered dental assistants and dental hygienists. The Department is currently developing a questions and answers guide to help clarify the changes. Please keep checking this site for additional information. (June 2007)
