New Physical Therapy Regulations to Take Effect October 25, 2024

At its meeting on October 8, 2024, the Board of Regents approved amendments to the Regulations of the Commissioner of Education relating to physical therapy. The new regulations, which take effect October 25, 2024, implement chapter 594 of the Laws of 2023, which changes the education requirement for physical therapists from a master’s degree or higher, (as it currently reads) to a doctoral degree in physical therapy, or determined to be the equivalent, in accordance with the commissioner's regulations. The Regents action, including the amendments to the regulations, may be found on the Board of Regents website. The updated education requirements can be found on the Physical Therapy License requirements page on our website.
