Yes, prescriptions for non-controlled substances, including any and all refills, can be transferred to and filled by another pharmacy upon the request of a patient or their authorized representative. The prescription must be transferred in full, including all refills. The transfer of a prescription for a controlled substance is subject to the requirements of Article 33 of the Public Health Law and Part 80 of Title 10 of the New York Codes of Rules and Regulations.
The pharmacist transferring the prescription is responsible for invalidating the original prescription on file as of the transfer date. They must also document the following information, either in writing or electronically:
