The New York State Education Department (“SED”) Office of the Professions (“OP”) is alerting everyone to a vishing scam that has been brought to our attention. Phishing—or “vishing”—scams impersonate SED employees or websites attempting to collect licensure and personal information from the licensee. If you receive an inquiry which you believe to be suspicious do not provide any information. To verify if the inquiry was from OP, contact us directly. You may report any suspicious communication received to the Federal Trade Commission.

MASSAGE THERAPY EXAMINATION BLUEPRINT

This examination blueprint has been prepared from the Massage Therapy job analysis conducted in 2021.

  1. Assessment & Evaluation (15% of examination--21 items)
    1. Intake Interview
    2. Physical Examination - Evaluation of clients for treatment; gathering information about client's condition; performing passive, active, and resisted movements
  2. Development of a Treatment Plan (27% of examination--37 items)
    1. Definition of scope of treatment
    2. Areas of knowledge, including anatomy, physiology, and pathology in exploring client's condition
    3. Selection of appropriate modes of treatment; re-evaluation of initial treatment plan
  3. Application of Treatment Skills (28% of examination--39 items)
    1. Preparation
    2. Application of Massage Therapy techniques
    3. Application of accessory therapeutic techniques
    4. Patient education
  4. Treatment of clients affected by specific conditions (16% of examination--23 items)
  5. Professional Responsibilities, Business Practice and Professional Ethics (14% of examination--20 items)
    1. Knowledge of State laws and regulations governing practice of Massage Therapy
    2. Client-record keeping
    3. Safety and First Aid
