Practice GuidelinesIntroductionThe practice guidelines for veterinary medicine and veterinary technology in New York State, combined with New York State law, regulation and rule, are intended to provide practitioners with valuable information on good veterinary medicine and veterinary technology practice. The practice guidelines may also be useful to consumers and others. The practice guidelines were developed by the New York State Board for Veterinary Medicine and the State Education Department. The practice guidelines do not replace legal requirements for practice nor are they grounds for professional misconduct. Practice guidelines do not carry the force of law or regulation. Practitioners must specifically become familiar with and observe the legal requirements associated with professional practice. The purpose of the practice guidelines is described in more detail in the attached memorandum dated March 15, 1999 at the end of this document.
