Experimental Treatment
Experimental treatment programs are those that either do not follow recognized or generally accepted treatment practices, or do not have established clinical protocols, or do not have a significant research base.
The client or guardian must be informed about the experimental nature of the treatment.
The informed consent must then be documented by the licensee, and should include:
- a written explanation of the empirical and/or theoretical foundations for this treatment;
- a description of the goals and methods of the treatment; and
- mechanisms by which progress will be measured and reported.
As with all treatment procedures, standards of professional care as prescribed in Education Law Article 159 apply.
