Nursing Accreditation

Peer Reviewers

The Board of Regents of the University of the State of New York is recognized by the United State Education Department as an accrediting body for nursing education programs. The goal of accreditation is to ensure that education provided by institutions of higher education, including post-secondary vocational schools that offer nursing education, meets acceptable level of quality. Accrediting agencies, with programmatic, institutional, regional or national scope, develop evaluation standards and criteria and conduct peer evaluations to assess whether or not those standards and criteria are met. Institutions and/or programs that request an agency's evaluation and that meet an agency's criteria are then "accredited" by that agency. The Office of the Professions, Professional Education Program Review (PEPR) is charged with determining accreditation status through the approval, registration and re-registration of nursing programs. Peer Reviewers, are nurse educators that will participate in the review process of post-secondary vocational schools with license qualifying practical nurse programs for the purpose of registration and re-registration. The Peer Reviewers will contribute to the Department's commitment to non-discriminaroty process that renders impartial and objective judgement of program compliance with the Commissioner's Regulations Part 50 and 52.
