Status of Grandparenting Provisions as of July 1, 2009


The tables below display summaries of the various grandparenting provisions for the four licensed professions as of July 1, 2009.

Clinical Laboratory Technologist

Method 1
If, prior to December 31, 2007, you have successfully performed the duties of a clinical laboratory technologist for five years (at least 7,200 clock hours).
January 1, 2009 Experience:
Five years (7200 clock hours) by December 31, 2007

Method 2
Use this method if you:
  • have successfully performed the duties of a clinical laboratory technologist for two years (at least 2,880 clock hours) during the period from December 31, 2002 through December 31, 2007; and
  • will, by July 1, 2009, meet a transition pathway education requirement or a standard pathway education requirement for licensure as a clinical laboratory technologist (see Transition Pathway Education Requirements and Standard Pathway Education Requirements).
January 1, 2009 Experience:
Two years (2880 clock hours) between December 31, 2002 and December 31, 2007

Education:
July 1, 2009
Until Department takes final action on application.
Method 3
Use this method if you:
  • have successfully performed the duties of a clinical laboratory technologist for two years (at least 2,880 clock hours) during the period from December 31, 2002 through December 31, 2007; and
  • will, by July 1, 2009, successfully complete an acceptable baccalaureate or higher degree program with a major in biology, chemistry, or the physical sciences.
January 1, 2009 Experience:
Two years (2880 clock hours) between December 31, 2002 through December 31, 2007

Education:
July 1, 2009
Until Department takes final action on application.
Method 4
Use this method if you have been engaged full-time for two years (at least 2,700 clock hours) during the period from December 31, 2002 through December 31, 2007 as a faculty member or managing administrator involved directly in the development or planning of curricula or the provision of instruction for education programs in clinical laboratory technology for clinical laboratory practitioners at an organized entity that provides postsecondary education.
January 1, 2009 Experience:
as faculty for two years (2700 clock hours) from December 31, 2002 and December 31, 2007
Until Department takes final action on application.
Method 5
Use this method if you hold a Certificate of Qualification to practice as a clinical laboratory technologist that was issued by the New York City Department of Health prior to 1995.
January 1, 2009 Experience:
Certificate of Qualification Issued Prior to 1995 in NYC
Until Department takes final action on application.
Method 6
Use this method if you:
  • are currently certified as a clinical laboratory technician; and
  • will, by September 1, 2009, successfully complete an acceptable baccalaureate or higher degree program with a major in biology, chemistry, or the physical sciences; and
  • will, by July 1, 2009, have successfully performed the duties of a clinical laboratory technician for four years (at least 5,760 clock hours).
January 1, 2009 Certified as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist

Experience:
By July 1, 2009 four years as a certified clinical laboratory technician (5760 clock hours)

Education:
Baccalaureate or higher by September 1, 2009
Until Department takes final action on application.

Persons can continue to work as a certified clinical laboratory technician until licensed as a clinical laboratory technologist.
Method 6A
You may apply through this pathway until September 1, 2013.

Use this method if you have 6 months (at least 720 clock hours) of experience between December 31, 2004 through December 31, 2007 as a clinical laboratory technologist and your experience and competence are attested to by a director of a clinical laboratory regulated by the Department of Health.
September 1, 2013 Experience:
6 months (720 clock hours) between December 31, 2004 and December 31, 2007

Clinical director attests to both experience and competence.

Laboratory licensed by DOH
Until Department takes final action on application.

Clinical Laboratory Technician

You may apply through this pathway until September 1, 2013.

Use this method if you have 6 months (at least 720 clock hours) of experience from December 31, 2004 through December 31, 2007 as a clinical laboratory technician and your experience and competence are attested to by a director of a clinical laboratory regulated by the Department of Health.
September 1, 2013 Experience:
Six months (720 clock hours) from December 31, 2004 through December 31, 2007.

Clinical director attests to both experience and competence.

Method 2
Use this method if you:
  • have successfully performed the duties of a certified clinical laboratory technician for two years (at least 2,880 clock hours) during the period from December 31, 2002 through December 31, 2007; and
  • will, by July 1, 2009, meet a transition pathway education requirement or a standard pathway education requirement for licensure as a certified clinical laboratory technician (see Transition Pathway Education Requirements and Standard Pathway Education Requirements).

Cytotechnologist

  • have successfully performed the duties of a cytotechnologist for two years (at least 2,880 clock hours) during the period from December 31, 2002 through December 31, 2007 ; and
  • will, by July 1, 2009, meet a transition pathway education requirement or a standard pathway education requirement for licensure as a licensed cytotechnologist (see Transition Pathway Education Requirements and Standard Pathway Education Requirements.
January 1, 2009 Experience:
Two years (2880) clock hours between December 31, 2002 and December 31, 2007

Education:
July 1, 2009

Method 1A
Use this method if you have successfully performed the duties of a cytotechnologist for five years (at least 7,200 clock hours) prior to December 31, 2007.

Use this method if you hold a Certificate of Qualification to practice as a cytotechnologist that was issued by the New York City Department of Health prior to 1995.

Certified Histological Technician
