Wanted: Nominations for Membership on the State Boards for the Professions

Individuals dedicated to public protection, including licensed professionals and members of the public, are needed from throughout the State to serve on the 25 State professional boards. Board members assist the Board of Regents and the State Education Department to help ensure the highest quality of professional preparation and practice. Depending on the needs of the particular board, members may advise on licensing requirements, licensing examinations, and practice issues; they may also reach out to communities and participate in disciplinary proceedings.

Applications for board membership (below) may be submitted directly by interested individuals, or nominations may be made by colleagues, professional associations, consumer groups, etc. All nominees will receive full consideration for current and expected board vacancies. The Office strives to have board composition reflect the State's regions, New York's cultural diversity, and the various aspects of the profession(s). Nominations of and applications from individuals with diverse backgrounds and individuals with disabilities are encouraged.

The board vacancy table lists expected vacancies, but nominations are welcome any time. Potential board members are interviewed throughout the year. The Committee for Professional Assistance is not listed below, but OP accepts nominations continuously from licensed professionals or other volunteers who are interested in helping professionals deal with addictive illness.

The frequency of participation in meetings and discipline review panels varies from board to board. Board members receive $100 a day plus approved expenses for their service. For the most current information about the needs of particular boards, or to submit nominations, please contact the Board Executive Secretary for the profession.
