State Boards for the Professions

Calls for Board Nominations

Individuals dedicated to public protection, including licensed professionals and members of the public, are needed from throughout New York State to serve on the 30 State Professional boards/committees. Board members assist the Board of Regents and the State Education Department to help ensure the highest quality of professional preparation and practice. Depending on the needs of the particular board, members may advise on licensing requirements, licensing examinations, and practice issues; they may also reach out to communities and participate in disciplinary proceedings. Professional board members must be New York State-licensed professionals who are residents of the State. Public members are required to be consumers of the service of the board. A board member is appointed for a five-year term and may be reappointed for a second term.

Architecture

The State Board for Architecture is looking for three professional board members.

Applications for board membership may be submitted directly by interested individuals, or nominations may be made by colleagues, professional associations, consumer groups, etc. Potential board members are interviewed throughout the year; with all nominees receiving full consideration for current and expected board vacancies. The Office strives to have board composition reflect the State's regions, New York's cultural diversity, and the various aspects of the profession(s). Nominations of and applications from individuals with diverse backgrounds and individuals with disabilities are encouraged.

The frequency of participation in meetings and discipline review panels varies from board to board. Board members receive $100 a day plus approved expenses for their service.
