The New York State Board of Pharmacy will be conducting a special roundtable discussion on oversight of pharmacy technicians. Particular focus will be on implementing a pharmacy technician registration process. New York is among a quickly shrinking minority of states that does not regulate pharmacy technicians.
The Board of Pharmacy will begin the day with a thorough review of standards and processes used in other jurisdictions, and the current duties which may be delegated to unlicensed personnel in NYS. At 1 PM, the Board will lead a round table discussion to obtain input from the pharmacy community.
Representatives from the professional associations, colleges of pharmacy and other stakeholders are welcome to attend and submit comments, preferably prior to the meeting.
Comments should be submitted electronically to the Board of Pharmacy Office at pharmbd@mail.nysed.gov.
We look forward to the meeting on Tuesday, February 24, 2009 and the opportunity to discuss this important topic as we continue our role in protecting the public.
